NAMES OF Prophet Muhammad (May Peace be Upon Him)

Prophet Muhammad (May Peace be Upon Him) was the last of the 124,000 prophets sent by Allah to steer the life of the sinners to the righteous path. Allah at numerous places in the Muslims' holy book "Quran" addressed Prophet Muhammad (May Peace be Upon Him) either directly or indirectly, using some of the 99 qualities attributed to the prophet. The name Muhammad four times in the Quran, in the following verses: 3:144, 33:40, 47:2 and 48:29. The name Muhammad is the transliteration of a Arabic name that comes from the Arabic passive participle from the Triconsonantal root of H-M-D ("praise"), meaning "the praised one". And no doubt, the Prophet Muhammad (May Peace be Upon Him) is the most revered and praised prophet of all. In Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of God be upon him), Allah had an uswatun hasana (”the most beautiful pattern of conduct”, Surah Al Ahzab, 33:21). There are numerous Quranic verses exhorting Muslims to emulate this exemplar of a human being. Exhortations from the Holy Book aside, a man whose teachings are being followed by one in five people on this planet deserves attention.
Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “I have five names: I am Muhammad, I am Ahmad, I am al-Mâhî for Allah eliminates disbelief by me, I am al-Hâshir since all people gather under me at the day of Judgment, and I am al-`Âqib”. [Sahîh al-Bukhârî (3532), Sahîh Muslim (2354), Sunan al-Tirmidhî (2842) and Musnad Ahmad (80/81/84)].
